The transition from couch to gym is rough. Personally, December brought about a consistent cozy routine of daily cookies and wine and too much Netflix, but its time to get moving again! #selfcarejanuary. The first week is always the hardest. Not only does it bring physical pain but there isn’t any immediate reward for your hard effort.
When it comes to getting back to fitness and healthy lifestyle resolutions, it is essential that you set yourself up for success by following these basic principals:
1. Start easy.
Don’t expect too much. Just start small and make it feel too easy at first. Just move, in which ever way feels right for your body. Set goals both little and big.
2. Clean nutrition.
There are so many mixed messages when it comes to what we should/shouldn’t be eating. Keep it simple. Focus on eating healthy, nutrient dense foods, and fewer processed foods rather than following a strict plan or eliminate whole food groups. Stay hydrated.
3. Get more rest!
This cannot be stressed enough. It is essential for your mental health, fitness, and especially your immune system. If you need a nap, TAKE IT. Listen to your body.
4. Create a post-workout ritual.
Take a bath, get a massage. Taking baths routinely helps to improve circulation, aid in recovery, decrease stress hormones and promote better sleep. Give those sore muscles some love with Apres Sport Therapeutic Bath Salts to aid in muscle recovery, and follow it with a massage with Recover AromaRx Body Oil which helps with inflammation and nourishes skin.
Stay tuned for more self-care in January!
